Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh

This exciting project in a new waterside housing development provides the opportunity to create a unique and inspiring greenspace to compliment family living. The client brief required creation of balcony planting with seating space that maintains openness whilst breaking up the straight line of surrounding infrastructure. Corten steel effect fibre glass enhances the planting and adds texture whilst ensuring that the planters do not get too hot.

Whilst hardy perennial plants provide structure and seasonality, tender perennial plants add constant flowers and colour. The balcony has now become not only stimulating place for viewing and dwelling but also a refuge for wildlife despite of the challenge of strong wind from the waterside.

The back garden has a strong emphasis on sustainability with a rain garden system and a living wall installed, complimented by seating area and porcelain paving patios all within a relatively small urban space that provides a green haven within this newly developed housing complex.
